How to Store and Serve Filled Cookies

A filled cookie has more than one part to look after: the cookie itself, the centre and any topping. Keeping it well and choosing how to serve it helps you enjoy the combination the way you intended, whether you chose chocolate ganache, cream cheese ganache or frosting.

Ejvinds' bakers recommend storing our filled cookies at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Their quality guidance is two weeks from baking. Freezing is possible, but it can reduce the quality. Here is how to use that advice alongside the instructions for your particular cookie.

Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight

Choose a place at normal room temperature where the cookies will not sit in direct sun. Keep the packaging and any product-specific instructions with the cookies, so you can check them before serving.

Handle the topping gently. If you move cookies onto a plate, avoid placing another cookie directly on frosting or a soft finish. The point is to protect the product you ordered rather than treating every cookie as a plain biscuit.

The quality period starts on baking day

The two weeks refer to quality from the day the cookies are baked, not two weeks added to the day you open the box. Delivery and any time before opening are part of that period.

Check the date information and storage instructions provided for your order. If you cannot identify the baking date or how the guidance applies to your pack, ask Ejvinds. Do not start a new two-week period simply because the box has only just been opened.

Quality guidance and safety date markings have different roles. As EFSA explains, a use-by date concerns safety and a best-before date concerns quality. Follow the date and storage information on the product; warming a cookie does not override it.

Freezing filled cookies

You can freeze Ejvinds filled cookies, although our bakers advise that this reduces quality. Consider that trade-off when you want to keep cookies rather than enjoy them within the recommended quality period.

Keep track of which flavours you freeze and retain the original product information. Ask the bakery for the appropriate thawing instructions for your selection, particularly when the filling or topping is different from a plain cookie. A freezer should not be treated as a way to reverse poor storage or extend a use-by date after it has passed.

For freezing and thawing, use the instructions for the specific flavour. A time from an unrelated recipe does not establish the right method for a cookie with a different filling or topping.

Warm only according to the individual product's advice

Some Ejvinds cookies have a specific serving suggestion. The Molten Lava Cookie product page suggests 10 seconds in the microwave to soften its chocolate ganache centre. The Red Velvet Cream Cheese Cookie page suggests 15 seconds for its cream cheese ganache.

These are separate product instructions, not a universal setting for the whole box. Check the current page and any instructions supplied with the product. Remove packaging before microwaving and use a microwave-safe plate. Microwaves vary, so the quoted times should not be used as a promise of an identical result in every appliance.

Frosting and chocolate coating are different finishes

The Birthday Cookie has frosting and sprinkles. That is different from the ganache centres described above, so a serving tip for Molten Lava should not automatically be used for it.

Cookie Bites are chocolate-covered mini cookies and belong to a different product format. Follow their own pack instructions instead of applying the filled-cookie quality period or microwave suggestions to them.

A simple serving routine

  1. Check the date and instructions for the cookie you plan to serve.
  2. Keep the other cookies in the recommended storage conditions.
  3. If that product has a warming suggestion, follow its own advice.
  4. Serve it in a way that lets you enjoy the cookie, filling and topping together.

If you are choosing your next box, open the flavour information in the cookie box builder. It helps you select the fillings you enjoy and check the ingredients before ordering.
